Several years ago Arvida approached Media Lab | Power Images about developing an on-line system for maintaining their photography. The company’s photography was being housed in a number of binders. Finding images was time-consuming and difficult. In addition, numerous people in different locations had to have access to the images. Valuable one-of-a-kind photographic transparencies were being shipped back and forth between the client and vendors. There were many instances of photography being misplaced or simply not available for other uses.

Media Lab | Power Images programmers created an on-line photo cataloging system called “LightBox”. Working with the client, a set of criteria was developed to categorize all existing images. They were then scanned by Media Lab | Power Images and entered into the system. The client could then browse through the images by searching by either categories or keywords. An ordering system was also developed that allowed the client to order digital files, photo prints, or slides from the selected images. Digital files are sent to the client via FTP or CD.
All new photography is sent to Media Lab | Power Images in either film or digital form and added to the LightBox to keep the catalog current and all images centralized.
